How Many Mavic Batteries for Continuous Flying
If your Mavic air battery has issues, then you are not alone. When I bought my first Mavic Air Fly More Combo with three extra batteries, I thought buying extra batteries could work as a backup.
But, I rarely used all three batteries, and after five months, when I took them out one day and put them into the battery hub to see whether the batteries were alive or not. All Mavic air batteries indicated a solid red light and did not charge. After asking the DJI support team, now I know why my Mavic air battery is not charging?
Why is My Mavic Air Battery Not Charging?
Your DJI Mavic Air battery is not charging because it may have gone into hibernation mode, and this is quite common for Mavic Air batteries when they are new or haven't been used for a long time. To fix this problem, leave the battery on with the DJI charger for a few hours.

How To Reset Mavic Air Battery?
If your Mavic Air battery is not charging, the most likely reason is that it is in hibernation mode. Here is a simple solution that may be able to help you:
According to the DJI Mavic Air Intelligent Flight Battery safety guidelines, the only way for you to get back the Mavic Air battery out of hibernation mode is to:
- Leave the battery alone for at least five minutes after turning it on.
- After that, recharge it using the DJI charger.
However, some people left their Mavic Air batteries for an hour but didn't see any results. That's why we recommend that you leave your battery charging for at least 3 to 4 hours to try to get back from hibernation mode. Even some people had to leave their batteries charging for at least 20 hours.
From there, leave the battery alone after you have turned on the power button and do not touch it while charging to try to get back from hibernation mode.
Please do not touch the power button at any point in time before it gets out of hibernation. Only use an approved DJI charger for charging DJI drones to kick the battery out of hibernation. If you charge your batteries from a third-party charger, there is a high chance that your drone batteries will be damaged.
After letting it charge for several hours, try turning it on to see if it has actually gotten back from hibernation or if it has been fully charged. Still, if the Mavic Air battery is not working, then repeat it all over again.

Mavic Air Battery Not Charging Showing Red Light
Your Mavic Air battery is not charging and showing red light because it does not come out of hibernation mode. It happens when you do not use batteries for a while. To kick out of hibernation mode, leave the Mavic air battery alone for at least five minutes after turning it on. After that, recharge it using the DJI charger for a couple of hours
Why Is My Mavic Air Battery Bloated?
Your Mavic air battery is bloated because of different reasons, like using a non-DJI charger, charging the battery right after flying the drone, and overcharging the batteries. Using a non-DJI charging system can send a high voltage that spikes the energy and gives too much power to the battery, thus resulting in bloating batteries.
Using a third-party charger can cause the battery never to charge 100 percent or stop working in the middle of the drone flight. Flying a drone using a bloated battery can be dangerous, and it can cause you severe damage.
How Do I Fix My Mavic Air Bloated Battery?
It is not recommended to fix your drone batteries yourself if you don't know how batteries work. We recommend you buy a new one if the battery is bloated. You can get a new Mavic air 2 battery on Amazon.
But if you can't afford to buy a new battery, you can follow these steps to fix your bloated drone battery temporarily. However, try this at your own risk because opening a bloated battery is very dangerous.
To fix the Mavic air bloated battery, simply follow this step-by-step guide.
- Open the battery from the rear side gently.
- Don't cut the wire inside the battery.
- Slowly pull the small black cover without damaging the wire inside.
- After that, use a needle to make a hole in all three cells from the rear side to release the pressure.
- Squeeze the cells gently until the battery comes out of its normal shape.
- Then take a piece of electrical tape to cover the holes you made on the cells.
- Check if all the holes are perfectly covered or not. Make sure no moisture goes inside the cells.
- Attach all the parts of the battery.
- At last, take a drone test flight by using this battery.
- Now the bloated battery is fixed.
Tips to Maintain Mavic Air Battery
Here are some tips which make sure your Mavic air batteries will have a longer life:
1. Never charge the battery right after the drone flight
Never charge the drone battery right after you fly your drone because it can cause the battery to swell up or catch on fire.
After flying the drone, the drone batteries are hot because it releases so much energy to the drone to let it fly. The batteries release energy that causes heat. If you try to charge the battery, it generates more heat and can cause terrible consequences for your battery.
2. Never use a third-party charger
Never use a non-DJI charger because if you use a third-party charger system, it can send a high voltage to spike the energy and give too much power to the battery.
In some cases, using a third-party charger does not give enough power to the battery. It can strip the internal workings and cause damage to the battery.
Some consequences of using a third-party charger are bloated batteries, slowing the charging process, never charging 100 percent, and stop working in the middle of the drone flight.
3. Charge your drone battery at an ideal temperature
In terms of temperature, if you keep the battery in an environment under 5 degrees celsius and above 41 degrees celsius, which equals under 41 degrees Fahrenheit and above 105 Fahrenheit, the battery has a fail-safe system that disables the battery charging at certain temperatures.
The ideal charging temperature of these batteries is 22 to 28 degrees celsius, which equals 71 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit. We know that many people can't do that regularly, but as long as you keep the temperature above the minimum and below the maximum during charging, your drone battery will be 100 percent fine.
Once the battery reaches a safe charging temperature, the smart dock starts charging the battery, and the light will go from orange to green.
4. Fully charge and discharge your batteries every three months
Make sure you fully charge or discharge your drone batteries every three months when they are not in use. It keeps the smart battery working 100 percent, and it extends the life of your batteries.
One thing about these smart batteries is that they will discharge themselves after ten days if you are not using them. Suppose a Mavic air battery has a 100 percent charge, and you are not using that for ten days. The battery charge drops from 100 percent to 60 percent, but it stores 60 percent in reserve.
Suppose you don't use your drone batteries for a long time. In that case, it is essential to fully charge and fully discharge them every three months to let the battery do its thing to get it down to 60 percent.
DJI Mavic Air Battery Signal Error
The things you would want to do if your Mavic Air shows a battery error-
- Update your drone firmware.
- Make sure your battery is correctly attached to the drone.
- Check if there is any dirt on the ports of the battery.
- Check if the drone battery contact board pins are not bent.
- Check if there is any visible damage seen on the battery.
- Use a different battery to see if it still shows battery error.
After following all the things, if still, your Mavic air shows a signal error, you need to send your drone and battery to DJI, and they will fix your drone and battery.
Conclusion
Suppose your Mavic Air battery is brand new and not charging. In that case, chances are your battery is in hibernation mode. It is very normal because when drone batteries are not in use for a while, they automatically go into hibernation mode.
But suppose the Mavic air battery is not charging due to visible damage. It is better to buy a new battery than use a damaged battery. Even if you repair the bloated Mavic air battery, it is still recommended to buy a new one because it is a temporary fix.
