This painting is a portrait of my husband Robert at the helm of our sailboat Misty Blue. I did this painting from a photograph I took during a trip nosotros made on the boat going up the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW).
On this trip, Robert was in the Navy and was being transferred from Jacksonville, FL, to the naval base of operations in Norfolk, VA. We had to figure out a fashion to movement our 36 ft. sailboat from a marina near where we lived in FL to VA, then we decided to canvas it instead of having information technology shipped. That decision saved united states of america a ton of money and made usa rich with memories! At first, we were sailing out in open up waters upwards the eastward coast, but a tempest suddenly came up, forcing us to go inland and up the ICW instead. It was a bit frightening for me when nosotros encountered that storm because information technology was my first sailing trip; still, Robert handled it and the sails similar the sailing pro he is!
Robert was on deployment with his send at sea for six months when I started his portrait. I finished it earlier his return. He had no idea I was doing this painting and was very surprised to see his portrait when he returned habitation.
This painting is part of my private art collection and is not for sale. One solar day it will be passed down to his son Travis as a family unit heirloom, but until that 24-hour interval comes, information technology will continue to hang in our living room.
